What is the meaning of the NOTRUNCATE option in the "DBCC SHRINKDATABASE" command?

The NOTRUNCATE option in the "DBCC SHRINKDATABASE" command tells MS SQL Server to not truncate free spaces in physical data files when shrinking the database. So the command just shrinks the data in data files, but not file sizes.
