Entry Level Database Administrator (DBA)
SQL Server DBA will perform database administration services for enterprise SQL Server databases. Provide planning, design, and development throughout project lifecycle along with operational support and maintenance for test and production systems with an emphasis within the domain of SQL tuning and optimization.
Perform production support administration tasks including proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, tracing, backup, recovery, and on-call support to ensure availability and performance requirements are met. * Consult with application teams to identify, design, and optimize SQL queries * Develop and maintain technical proficiency using MS-SQL and Oracle databases * Consult with application teams to provide capacity planning and database deployment recommendations * Implement problem detection and prevention strategies to reduce database problems and improve service quality. * Perform database installation, migrations, patches, and upgrades. * Design, configure, test, and support high-availability clustering utilizing Microsoft technologies * Design and implement policies and procedures for disaster recovery and data archive to ensure protection of data assetsCommunication Skills: * Courteous and tactful at all times with customers and IT Colleagues * Effectively probes customers to determine the actual nature, or underlying cause of a problem * Ability to share technical knowledge with customer in a clear and concise way (written or oral) * Maintains a network of contacts that can be leveraged to solve problems that may ariseDecision Making: * At times, functions independently with limited work direction * May make work assignments and determine the direction work should take, following best practices * Ability to problem solve in response to crisis situations and make decisions that may fall outside one’s personal area of expertise
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree with 1-3 years’ experience working with SQL Server 2012 and/or 2008R2 databases * Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills with demonstrated experience documenting and working through issues as part of a team * Excellent verbal and written communications skills, able to communicate clearly and effectively * Strong customer service focus and ability to manage customer expectations * Must be able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities
