DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security;
Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users;
Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database;
Considering both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility for end-users and applications;
Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model;
Refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements;
Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS;
Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act;
Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
Controlling access permissions and privileges;
Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;
Ensuring that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly;
Capacity planning;
Working closely with IT manager, application programmer, and end users including the Associate Director of Research and the research team;
Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Able to be a team player
Healthcare experience, particularly in an academic medical setting, a plus
Familiarity with EPIC, IDX, PatientKeeper, COGNOS software preferred
EDUCATION:
BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
EXPERIENCE:
3+ years of relevant MS SQL and MySQL experience
Understanding of open source projects like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal
Demonstrable knowledge of SQL Server 2008 Management Studio, phpMyAdmin, and LINUX command line
Good knowledge of SQL, encryption, APIs, and web services.
