Provide vision and thought leadership for database technology and architecture within the Ecommerce technology team. Contribute heavily towards overall systems architecture.
Collaborate with developers and software architects on data modeling, indexing, and query optimization.
Administer, maintain, and monitor production database systems, ensuring availability and performance.
Quickly troubleshoot and address production issues.
Plan for growth in data storage and throughput requirements.
Configure and monitor multi data center replication, ensuring the effectiveness of disaster recovery plans.
Manage proactive maintenance, backups, and other scheduled jobs.
Mentor and educate Developers and QA Engineers on database fundamentals, techniques, and best practices.
Highly technical, analytical and critically thinking. The right candidate is not merely a user of technology – it is someone who understands how systems work at the lowest levels, and can accurately evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of multiple technologies and approaches to select the best fit for the problem at hand.
Deep understanding of the underlying philosophies and tradeoffs inherent in both RDBMS and NoSQL database systems, and objective appreciation for each. The ideal candidate has experience choosing a database technology and can convincingly defend the selection made.
3+ years of experience administering SQL Server 2008/2012 for high transaction volume mission critical applications.
At least 1 year of experience administering complex, high availability, mission critical MongoDB clusters.
Systems Administration experience with Linux and Windows, shell scripting, and virtualization.
Demonstrated ability to co-architect solutions with application development teams. Hands on experience writing code is strongly preferred.
Experience with MongoDB sharding preferred. Experience and interest in other emerging database technologies (i.e. Cassandra, HBase, Riak) strongly preferred.
Team Player focused on collaborating with a diverse yet unified technology team to deliver maximum value to the business. Elite technical skills balanced with a business first/technology second attitude.
