Database Administrator

• Create and maintain the physical database structures required to effectively support application software with minimal guidance of Senior Database Administrators. • Provide technical assistance to IT Solution Delivery Project Teams with minimal guidance of Senior Database Administrators. • Monitor RDBMS performance for assigned database platforms and operating environments with minimal guidance of Senior Database Administrators. • Provide Database Object and application tuning recommendations with minimal guidance from Senior Database Administrators. • Work with RDBMS utilities to provide services such as table load/unload, reorganizations, backup/recovery, etc. • Works with application developers to execute performance benchmarks of production SQL. • Assist in the enforcement of standards for all databases. • Assist in the research, selection, and implementation of RDBMS specific utilities. • Assist in the evaluation, implementation and support of application software packages and their requisite RDBMS platform. • Develop productivity aids using appropriate batch, scripting, or programming languages with minimal guidance from Senior Database Administrators. • Develops/Implements/Maintains Database utilities to support RDBMS implementations with minimal guidance from Senior Database Administrators. • Provide On-Call Support.

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or comparable job-related experience is required. • Work experience should include 2-6 years experience in Information Systems with 2-3 years devoted to the Oracle Platform and it’s associated operating environment.

• Exposure to Database Administration duties. Proficient in writing and evaluating SQL.

• Skilled with SQL and korn shell scripting. • Familiar with AIX. • Familiar with multi-tiered environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Computer Science / Information Systems. Advanced degree in business or technical subject areas is helpful. • Retail systems knowledge and/or Application Development / Technical Support background is a plus. • Specialized training from the Database Vendor or another third-party education organization is a plus.

Host Database System

Experience with some or all of the following:

MVS OS390, Teradata, IBM DB2 Utilities, BMC Utilities for DB2, Teradata Utilities (BTEQ, FastExport, Multiload), PeopleSoft, CA DB2 Monitors, CA Plan Analyzer, DB2 Application Performance Tuning, DB2 Application Design Techniques, Windows NT/2000/XP, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

Mid-Range Database Systems

Experience with some or all of the following:

DBArtisan, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Visio, Microsoft Project, Transact SQL, PL-SQL.
