Sybase DBA
Responsible for all aspects of Sybase relational database support, including: Logical and physical database design and definition, SQL review, database migration and production support, performance tuning (for both local and distributed access), determining database topologies, recovery and business continuation (both onsite and offsite), and serving as a liaison between applications development, and systems Admin groups. Database design includes methodologies for Online, Batch, distributed, Web-based, e-commerce, and client-server access infrastructures. This individual would serve as a technical expert on database enablement and access techniques (ODBC, JDBC, etc.) and related technologies and is expected to provide technical consulting support to development areas as required Plan, develop, schedule, and implement data and structural enhancements to the database environment (new tables, objects, software upgrades, database topologies, etc.) while maintaining critical business data availability
Qualifications:
BS in Computer Science.
Minimum 7 years of progressive technical experience and responsibilities in the database field encompassing 2+ years of database physical design, and 5 years in-depth Sybase expertise. This experience would include Database skills on a large scale, high availability business environment with extensive expertise in database design, operational database administration, performance tuning, DBMS installation and configuration, and DBMS production support. Knowledge of Web / Application communications protocols including (but not limited to) IP, ODBC, JDBC. Experience with Microsoft Windows/NT, SUN/Solaris, AIX. Knowledge of Sybase Data Replication, SQL tuning, DBArtisan, TCP/IP, and Web servers technologies are a significant plus. Proven ability to quickly integrate new technologies is also required.
Prior coding, development, or systems experience a significant plus. Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial. Ability to plan, estimate resources, and lead small teams on project-specific implementations with a results oriented focus is essential. Provide technical consulting services to application development and systems areas on topics relating to database performance, database enablement technologies, and data access issues.
