Essential Functions Assist with architectural strategy for central database environments. Create database designs and implementations that support academic and business objectives. Ensure that database performance is aligned to University business processes and usage peaks. Provide primary support for Oracle databases and secondary support for MySQL and MSSQL. Define efficiency improvements and implementation of database policies and procedures for data security and integrity across heterogeneous database platforms. Communicate information and issues clearly and succinctly with both technical and non-technical personnel. Define and implement disaster recovery and business continuity policies and ensure compliance across heterogeneous platforms. Provide technical leadership in resolution of highly complex issues involving databases and related technical domains. Demonstrate exceptional collaborative skills, building relationships within the database team and across the University. Work with UNIX operating system commands to monitor and diagnose system problems. Assist in the writing of Unix Shell scripts. Assist with review and recommendation of emerging database technologies in clear alignment with current and emerging university academic and business processes. Define database monitoring requirements and ensure compliance across heterogeneous database platforms.
Required qualifications 8 years of experience in DB design/architecture, data modeling, security, performance, scalability, and tuning for ERP, web, and scientific research databases across heterogeneous DB platforms. Demonstrated experience leading efficiency improvements and implementation of DB policies and procedures for data security and integrity across heterogeneous DB platforms. Proven experience in disaster recovery and business continuity design and implementation across heterogeneous DB platforms. Demonstrated experience of successful partnerships with software application development groups to provide DB setup, optimization, and modification support. Experience in identification, design and implementation of process automation with scripting tools. Proven record of successful design and implementation of High Availability Configurations and Clustering, Replication, Mirroring and Log Shipping - across heterogeneous DB platforms. Experienced with systematic performance tuning (i.e., DB server performance tuning, DB-related component tuning, and product-specific DB request tuning) across heterogeneous database platforms. Bachelor's degree. Excellent customer focus and interpersonal skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
