Database Administrator
The primary responsibility for this role is to perform database administration functions including; Security access, performance tuning, capacity planning, and database replication/backups for recoverability.
In addition this position will perform complex database administration assignments essential to the production and development of databases which include database analysis, security support, design, software use, and performance monitoring and tuning.
Essential Functions:
· Develops maintenance and backup procedures, change control processes and operational documentation
· Assists application development teams in working with databases, planning and implementing production changes and query optimization
· Performs quality control audits to ensure accuracy completeness and proper usage of data in tables and support tools, such as database dictionaries
· Reviews database design and integration of systems and makes recommendations for enhancements or improvements
· Monitors transaction activity and utilization, with particular strengths in performance tuning highly transactional databases in both the development and production environments including remotely located servers
· Ensures data replication is scheduled and optimized
· Root cause analysis and resolution for all the database and application issues
· Participation in scheduled and unscheduled system maintenance
· Change Management, on-call and off-hour systems support
· Participation in Application recovery and Disaster Recovery practices
· Maintains security standards with other database administrators and technical resources
Knowledge Skills and Qualifications:
· Bachelor degree or above
· 5+ years of hands on SQL Server experience including the following technologies and features:
- SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008, 2008 R2 Administration
- Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2
- Deployment and operation of highly available SQL Server solution
- SQL performance analysis and tuning
- Backup and Recovery/ Capacity planning
· A proven track record of troubleshooting complex issues and hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 along with knowledge of database best practices
· Self-motivated and highly professional with exceptional verbal and written communications skills.
· Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, plan to meet project deadlines, accommodate demands by users, set priorities and escalate issues appropriately
· Experience monitoring database management systems as well as evaluating database performance to maximize efficiency
· A SQL DBA background in a large organization is preferred
