Senior Teradata Database Administrator
BS Degree, computer science or similar technical discipline, (experience can be substituted for degree).
Three to five years as a (large Systems) database administrator.
Experience in a large, 24x7 environment.
Experience with multi-terabyte, multi-application databases.
Ability to write, debug and tune SQL macros, procedures, functions, triggers, etc.
Solid experience with very large, multi-workload data warehouses.
Advanced knowledge of database administration tasks such as Database Console utilities, security, and workload management.
Previous experience with issues around database, client tool, and hardware upgrades.
Ability to write, debug and tune SQL, macros, procedures, functions, triggers, etc.
Ability to identify / implement primary index & secondary index considerations on tables.
Ability to identify / implement statistics collection on tables.
High degree of experience with database monitoring and tuning tools such as Teradata
Solid experience with the UNIX operating SYSTEM and command set as well as high degree of competence with shell scripting.
Solid experience with very large, multi-workload data warehouses.
Familiarity of the capabilities of the Teradata API.
Define, implement & monitor Teradata Manager alert requirements.
Ability to create monitoring and alerting scripts as required supporting operational requirements.
Identify and eliminate data skews by working with the application teams.
Maintain cron jobs and other admin. scripts on Teradata.
Identify performance issues and make recommendations for resolution.
Identify worst performing SQL instances as candidates for tuning
Ability to independently cater to end users adhoc SQL queries, analyze them for performance considerations and work with them on providing solutions that are optimized for run time as well as SYSTEM resource usage.
Understand and maintain performance management database macros / process.
Experience in near-active environment and subsequent loading considerations.
Manage Roles, Profiles.
Monitor, dynamically manage and kill sessions.
