Database Administrator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

§ Designs, implements and supports data warehousing;

§ Monitors data files, database performance, system utilization, system configuration, and performs growth analysis and capacity planning.

§ Implements data models and database designs; resolves database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues;

§ Implements business rules via stored procedures, middleware, or other technologies;

§ Defines user interfaces and functional specifications;

§ Administers, maintains, and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security, accuracy and integrity of the databases;

§ Plans data flows for a new or revised database;

§ Maps out the 'conceptual design' for a planned database in outline form;

§ Refines the 'logical design' so that it can be translated into a specific data model;

§ Refines the 'physical design' to meet system storage requirements;

§ Maintains data standards, creates database documentation, including data standards, policies, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary ('metadata');

§ Ensures that mission critical databases and devices are available and operating year-round, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;

§ Designs, implements and supports a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery plan that encompasses data warehousing best practices and design guidelines;

§ Controls access permissions and privileges;

§ Installs and tests new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems;

§ Communicates regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff, at all locations to ensure the database integrity and security;

§ The ability to write and debug complex SQL queries, scripts, views and triggers is required.

§ Must have a working knowledge designing, developing and manipulating databases, data warehouses and multidimensional databases.
