APPLICATION DBA
Primary Responsibilities Install/Configure and maintain Oracle databases, including RAC clusters. Fully understands the differences between star schema, Third Normal Form models and applies appropriate modelling techniques to projects. Appropriately applies normalization or de-normalization. Creates new data structures or revises existing schemas, with an emphasis on efficiency, ease of change, security, quality and risk management. Conducts audits of data to ensure accuracy and monitors data quality. Works with project managers and Data Architects on database application design. Works with Systems Administrators to create and manage logical disk spaces. Creates, maintains and administers database objects (tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, functions, packages, etc). Defines physical schema layout for various applications. Defines and creates database access schemata, roles and permissions. Enforces and maintains database constraints, defines and reviews privileges to ensure integrity of the database. Maintains database DDL (via ER/Studio, dbArtisan, and/or Oracle Utilities). Troubleshoots problems at the database, systems, and application levels. Tracks and resolves database systems issues. Acts as internal consultant to various projects with respect to physical database creation, utilization, and modernization. Configures and tunes database and database applications to ensure optimal performance. Works with Systems Administrator to manage various computer resources (including memory, DASD/disk, processes, schedules, priorities, and queues.) Serves as the technical support liaison between RLPT and Oracle Corporation. Develops solutions to routine problems or assists in developing solutions to moderately complex problems primarily related to own work area. Creates complete project documentation to include job steps, input/output files, flowcharts, parameter definitions, job prerequisites, interfaces, operational instructions and troubleshooting information. Mentors Associate Information Technologist, Database Administrators.
Secondary Responsibilities Performs other duties as requested by management. Relationships/Contacts Works closely with other departments within organization. Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not supervise anyone. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in Computer Science with at least four years experience in Database Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated Oracle RAC experience. Experience working with multiple platforms like LINUX, NT, and UNIX.
