Database Administrator (SQL*Server)

Description

* Installing and configuring databases and database-related software utilities to meet department needs. * Developing scripts to monitor and support database environments. * Developing and testing backup and recovery processes to ensure high availability and recoverability of databases. * Collecting and analyzing data for capacity planning and performance monitoring. * Independently performing functions to administer system access (e.g. setting up accounts, maintaining privileges and roles, maintaining passwords,). * Working with Enterprise Data, Information Security and Change Management to ensure internal controls compliance. * Reviewing and contributing to system design documents (SDD) to meet the objectives of projects. * Defining DBA tasks and providing time estimates to aid in project scheduling. * Coordinating tasks with other IT departments. * Monitoring progress against task estimates to provide status. * Assisting with the database infrastructure design to meet project objectives. * Translating logical data elements into the physical data design. * Supporting database changes during user acceptance testing and post implementation to ensure integrity of the application. * Participating in Business Continuity Plan (BCP) projects and tests to ensure high availability of our critical production databases. * Developing and maintaining knowledge in area of expertise, as well as a general understanding of all databases and operating systems, to provide daytime and after hours support for production databases. * Recognizing process and standard inefficiencies and making suggestions for improvement.

Qualifications

* Minimum 4 years experience as a SQL*Server 2000 Database Administrator o Fluent with backup and recovery techniques o Expertise with replication o Experience with High Availability options (log shipping/standby server) o Familiar with DTS functionality o Experience installing Service Pack releases * Minimum 1 year experience as a SQL*Server 2005 Database Administrator managing a large (>30 gb) database installation o Fluent with backup and recovery techniques o Expertise with replication o Experience with High Availability options (log shipping/standby server & data mirroring) o Experience with SSIS functionality o Experience installing Service Pack releases * Demonstrated knowledge of T-SQL * Experience with Database design & tuning techniques * Solid understanding of Windows operating system, .Net framework, VB or other command-level scripting * Demonstrated proficiency as a strong technical leader o Experience with cross-function project teams o Skilled listener and communicator * Willing to participate in after hours on-call support rotation (approx 1 shift per month) and other week-end or evening duties (projects work, support releases, patching)

Preferred Skills

* Experience managing a very large database (> 100gb) o SQL*Server Failover clustering experience would be a big plus !! * 5 years experience as a Sr. SQL*Server Database Administrator * Reporting Services and IAS knowledge a plus * Familiarity with DB Artisan, NetIQ and Red Gate tools for SQL*Server * Oracle 9i/10g database administration o strong working knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL
