SQL Database Administrator

ACCOUNTABILITY:

** Clearly understand all areas of the company information architecture ** Enable competitive advantage via effective and consistent use of database technology ** Provide input on master infrastructure plan as it relates to SQL Server databases, availability, and backup ** Work with senior management, internal development resources, and external development resources to manage scope and estimate delivery schedules ** Perform as the driver of all database-driven projects by providing hand-on coding as needed to support the tools and applications being built by the development group ** Establish and maintain standards for disaster recovery, including backup and failover ** Maintain and administer SQL server for optimum performance, including server load balancing, index optimization, data optimization, and archiving. ** Setup and maintain a replicated data architecture to support CBS Outernet*s remote locations ** Provide 24/7 uptime for all SQL Server Systems

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

** Write stored procedures and creating tables and views for use by the development team. ** Create and maintain DTS jobs/SSIS Packages for interface with other 3rd party products and external data feeds. ** Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures, including periodic disaster recovery tests ** Setup load balanced and clustered servers as necessary and appropriate. ** Monitor and manage SQL Server databases to ensure optimal performance and stability. ** Setup and maintain documentation and standards for all databases, OLAP cubes, data warehouses, replication scenarios, and cluster topologies. ** Work with the network management team to ensure consistency of server state and backup strategies. ** Evaluate and mitigate performance bottlenecks for all data access sources ** Work with the Chief Architect to review, recommend, and implement data architectures based on application and business requirements. ** Recommend, implement, and maintain replication topologies for remote offices and services ** Recommend, implement, and maintain analytical data environments, including OLAP and Data Warehousing ** Schedule, monitor, and maintain data management and batch processing jobs. ** Evaluate and recommend third party products that will enhance the overall stability of the SQL platform ** Create SQL stored procedures, views, tables, indexes, rules, DRI, UDFs, and scripts as necessary for use by the development team

PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE:

** Minimum 3 years experience in SQL database administration, including disaster recovery and replication ** Minimum 5 years experience working with T-SQL and programming for Microsoft SQL Server ** Strong background in web-based applications (particularly Microsoft .NET), database applications, reporting and analytics.

EDUCATION:

** A four-year degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience

REQUIRED SKILLS:

** Ability to implement databases for high availability, security, manageability and reliability. ** Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-person team or independently with limited supervision. ** Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. ** Excellent research skills, ability to leverage available tools such as subscription services, trade press, Internet or other online services. ** Must have solid multi-tasking skills and be able to work on multiple, disparate projects simultaneously ** Must be familiar with command line tools for maintaining and querying databases ** Experience with following development tools/languages: o SQL (T-SQL or ANSI-SQL) o MSDE o Microsoft Reporting and Analysis Services o Data Transformation Services (DTS) and SQL Server Import Services (SSIS) o HTML ** Experience with the following operating systems/server products: o Microsoft Windows 2003 o Internet Information Server 6.0 o Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005 ** Experience with any of the following is highly desirable, but not required: o Microsoft Visual Studio .NET o ASP ** Thorough knowledge of data design and architecture, including both OLTP and OLAP systems ** MCDBA or successful Microsoft SQL Server Administration exams a plus
