Oracle Database Developer Administrator
• Position requires Oracle-focused generalist who will be working with software development, administering internal databases and helping customers directly.
• Candidate must have working knowledge of Oracle administration including backup & recovery, performance monitoring and tuning, testing, and deployment. Will be responsible for administering internal development, test and production databases. Relevant topics and tools include: RMAN, query hints, explain plans, indexing, IOTs, etc.
• Selected candidate will be part of a software development team and will work on tasks including data modeling, capacity planning, application design and implementation, and related topics. Must be able to work in a team.
• Candidates must possess the ability to develop, from scratch if necessary, deployment/release-quality scripts for new installations and upgrades. Attention to detail and quality is critical.
• Systems are characterized as customer-hosted terabyte-scale deployments for the storage and retrieval of bio-science-related imaging and data. All applications developed in-house.
• Position provides third tier support to customer-site installations including via teleconferences, remote access, off-line analysis, etc. Must have good customer-facing demeanor, good communication skills, and patience.
• Selected candidate will be expected to take ownership and final accountability for all Oracle issues in the organization, and therefore must be self-starting and persistent in the pursuit of solutions. Must be resourceful and have excellent problem solving ability.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical skills and problem solving ability
• Interpersonal skills/ability to work in a small, highly accountable team
• Experience querying/tuning large relational databases
• Strong PL/SQL skills
• Strong organizational and time-management skills are required
• Experience with RMAN
• Database theory experience: modeling, normalization, de-normalization
• Perl and UNIX shell scripting knowledge a plus
• Experience with distributed applications, web services, transactional systems a plus
• Experience with and/or enthusiasm for XP/Agile/Test-driven methods a plus
• Knowledge of programming, other RDBMSs, TCP/IP networking, etc a plus.
