Remote Mirroring of an Oracle Database Using Data Replicator Software
2-5
Verifying the WAN and the LAN Infrastructure
After the on-site Discover phase, review the collected data for all of the network routers
that will be used for the remote mirroring services.
·
Make sure that sufficient additional bandwidth is available for remote mirroring traffic.
·
Make sure that additional ports are available to connect the storage systems.
·
Determine whether any Quality of Service (QoS) settings are in place.
·
Make sure that the correct IP addressing schema is in place.
·
Review the discovery data for the WAN hardware, if any discovery data exists.
·
Determine the current capabilities of the hardware and whether sufficient bandwidth is
available to support remote mirroring services.
·
Make sure that the equipment is on the supported compatibility list.
·
Make sure that the equipment firmware is current.
Windows OS
measurements
Document the following measurements for the Windows OS:
·
Disk reads/second (I/Os)
·
Disk writes/second (I/Os)
·
Average disk write bytes/second
(throughput)
·
Average disk read bytes/second
(throughput)
·
Average disk queue length
·
Average disk write queue length
·
Average disk sec/read (latency)
·
Average disk sec/write (latency)
·
Average disk bytes/write (I/O size)
·
Average disk bytes/read (I/O size)
·
Current disk queue length
UNIX OS
measurements
Databases running on UNIX platforms will use the
iostat
command to identify
the performance metrics of database component and LUN assignments.
iostat
options used:
-d
-D
-M
Oracle
measurements
The
Statspack
report will return information on table statistics.
In addition, instance recovery information should be noted.
